Concrete recycling, What is it?

Are you looking for concrete recycling? Concrete can be recycled and reused in several ways, but it all depends on the size of the piece of concrete and what the concrete looks same. Reusing concrete is a way to reduce your construction costs and time and provides some benefits to the environment when reusing concrete. Here are some ideas on how to use this old cement.

Ideas on how to use old concrete

  • Reclaimed concrete can be used in driveways to provide a walkable surface while at the same time providing gaps for rainwater to reach the soil. By doing so, engineers reduce runoff water, resulting in a minor sewage system.
  • Engineers recycle Old concrete into aggregates after crushing and processing.
  • Concrete pavements can be cracked in place and used as the prime course for asphalt pavement through a process called rubblization.
  • Engineers use Recycled concrete as a base for laying utilities underground.
  • Recycled aggregate (crushed concrete) can be combined with virgin aggregate when used in new concrete.
  • Concrete recycled from construction has been used as a material to generate new coral reef habitats.
  • Engineers can use Concrete waste to make paving blocks, pots, and benches for community use.
  • Benefits of concrete recycling
  • When you start recycling concrete, you will get some additional benefits such as:
  • It will reduce your construction waste and extend the life of your landfill for additional years.
  • The LEED® Green Building Rating System recognizes recycled concrete in its points system, and you will earn points toward certification.
  • Recycled concrete can replace virgin aggregates and reduce the environmental costs of natural resources.
  • Lower transportation costs: Engineers often recycle Concrete at demolition, construction sites, or near urban areas where it will be reused.
  • Reduced disposal costs of landfill taxes and tip fees can be avoided
  • Can be used as excellent assemblies for road bases, slope protection, and ground retention structures.
  • In some cases, employment opportunities arise in the recycling industry that did not exist in other sectors.

How is concrete recycled?

Concrete is recycled using crushing equipment equipped with large jaws and impactors. Usually, engineers use a secondary impact tool and screens to work with the concrete to remove dirt and particles from the concrete and remove the coarse aggregate. Water flotation, spacers, and magnets remove components from the concrete. Depending on the process you are trying to create, crushing concrete is not the best option because it will be difficult to complete the separation process, contaminating smaller by-products.

Equipment used for concrete recycling

When considering the option of concrete recycling, you will also need to evaluate the options available for concrete crushing. Engineers use a portable crusher as a more practical solution , as it will increase mobility and use it in different sites and projects. Ideally, you would want to set it up in a central location, close to where the concrete is being demolished, but in an area that won’t affect your site’s mobility.
