The difference between Ordinary concrete and reinforced concrete
Concrete is divided into two main parts:
1- Ordinary concrete.
2- Reinforced concrete.
First: Ordinary Concrete:
It means concrete that is used without reinforcing steel in it. Usually, the following proportions are used in its manufacture (0.8 m3 of gravel + 0.4 m3 of sand + 250 kg of cement + (160 – 180) liters of water).
Ordinary concrete uses:
1- In the cleaning mattress under the foundations of the establishments.
2- On the flooring bench on the ground floor of the facilities.
3- In the concrete tendencies on the roofs make tendencies to drain rainwater.
Second: Reinforced Concrete: It means the concrete that is used with reinforcing steel placed inside it. Usually, the following ratios are used in its manufacture: (0.8 m3 of gravel + 0.4 m3 of sand + 350 kg of cement + (160 — 180) liters of water) in addition to the percentage of reinforcement steel specified according to the plans in the different parts of the structure.
Uses of reinforced concrete:
1- Concrete structure work for all types of installations.
2- In bridges, bridges, and tunnels.
3- In marine installations.
4- In water tanks.
5- In paving roads (where there is inflexible paving that is done using reinforced concrete slabs, and this is not paving using the well-known asphalt).
Reinforced concrete is characterized by its ability to withstand pressure and tensile strength, unlike ordinary concrete, which can only withstand pressure.
Standard specifications for concrete:
Some tests are carried out on concrete to determine its resistance to compression and tensile strength, and to determine its specific weight and other characteristics.
There are limits to the results of these tests, which are considered acceptable by the Saudi or Egyptian standards. If the results of these tests do not reach the limit allowed in the specifications, they are considered rejected and construction works in which concrete is used are not accepted.
Since concrete is the material that is used in most constructions, and it is a structure that consists of several materials, and the largest part in this structure is the aggregate, which is a mass with properties with the cement paste that hardens due to the chemical reaction between cement and water, and concrete in its hardened state appears as a rocky material with high resistance.
For pressure – in its fresh state, it appears as a plastic material that can be formed inside the oven. Concrete with steel skewers is the most common construction material and used in construction for the ease of availability of its components and the relative cheapness of its constituent materials.
